Why it matters
In January 2026 President Trump threatened tariffs on eight European countries that opposed his bid to acquire Greenland, then dropped them after a framework reached with NATO's Secretary General. A US-Denmark-Greenland defence agreement was announced on 18 Sep 2026 and signed at the UN in New York. On 14 Oct he called the island 'our new and beautiful Greenland' in a post on resource exploration, without naming a threat.
Why Likelihood 3 Push: ambition restated 14 Oct 2026. Brakes: the signed agreement with no end date; the January climb-down; no trade action.
Why Impact 3 Threshold case one named threat, not carried out.
