Why it matters
Moldova has opened four of the six clusters of its EU accession talks, the last two on 13 Oct 2026, after Hungary dropped a veto aimed at Ukraine, whose talks run in step. Ireland, which holds the Council presidency to the end of 2026, says it will work to open the remaining two. Every opening needs all 27 member states.
